Good nights sleep all things considered. Both of us thought we’d be worried about all the creepy crawlies but that wasn’t the case and when we woke up there were none in sight. The aircon spooked them and kept them at bay it seems.
Down for breakfast and we had cereal and bread which was fine, but then we were then brought out noodles and a fried…didn’t really want it but didn’t want to offend so ate half of it. It was manageable I guess but glad I won’t be having it tomorrow. The family were there and the kids are getting chatty with us as is the husband.
We got ready and Caro got woken up again and he then took us up the hill by our lodge. It was very steep and he seemed more out of breath than me so we kept stopping so he could point things out, but I think it was more for a breather than anything else.
I managed it okay, well not as bad as previously if that’s anything to go by. We saw a snake and kingfisher in the first few minutes and various other birds as we trekked up the small trail. Got to the top and the view was excellent. Caro explained about the deforestation and the ministry trying to reverse things so that the forests are being replanted and the palm oil farms are not increased. He said 60% of Borneo is now palm oil plantation which is terrible to think of.
We came back down as it was only about an hour all round and we had a drink and further chat in the lodge and then relaxed in our room. Tash read, I snoozed and did the diary.
We then went for a wander to the local village and the internet kicked in so we spent about 30-45 mins hovering around the pylon, sat in the bus shelter or on the road trying to get a signal. Tash spent the time checking our itinerary, I played Clash of Clans and downloaded two episode of the Last Kingdom!!
Walked a circle then back to the lodge to be ready for the boat trip. More chatting to the family, we’d spoken to the mum earlier and she’s got her own businesses and clearly successful and has the mentality that Jack has now so if he can be half as successful as she appears to be then that will be great! She was interesting to talk to.
Went off to the pier and the family drove there then we jumped on the boat and did the same routine as yesterday but as with nature there were differences because the animals were in different places etc.
What was great is we saw a crocodile that was at least a metre long and to top it off we saw two orangutans near the place we saw the male yesterday. Quite a lot of people were there as it was obviously exciting. Saw decent close up of black and white hornbill. So impressive in my eyes.
Back along the river into the sunset and it was over. So it was very similar to yesterday’s trip but well worth doing again as we had a slightly different experience.
Stopped at the wifi pylon and sent some messages then back to our chalet to sort the packing for tomorrow out, we get picked up at 7.00am, and then down to dinner.
Dinner was good. It was “chicken” but we really aren’t certain it was!! Very tasty sauce though. Rest of the food was good too.
After that about 8.00pm we went back to the room and I watched my programme and Tash read.
Who says romance is dead on Valentines Day?!?
