After a very nice breakfast this morning; we booked a car for the Sky Cab and on arrival Hisham the driver picked us up for a single fare ride and talked us into being his driver for the day. Weren’t too sure about it but a great decision by the end of the day. Coat £20 all told to have our own private driver for a day.
We went to the Sky Can first and got tickets for two hours later so went off driving through island
Panicking about the time slot, Hisham was calm and said now we had the ticket we could go whenever we wanted to. We really weren’t sure but had to accept it.
We took us to Tangung Rhu Beach to a mate and to sell tours in the swamps. it was very expensive so we said no, still worried about our sky pass time to be honest!! We took some nice photos and moved on
He took us to another place but closer in mangroves and this time we did accept a reduced price and went on tour for two hours.
First we saw, and fed, eagles that swooped down and picked up the bait from the water. Really quite impressive seeing the so close up front. We then continued on and saw loads of monkeys. We got close to them, a little too close as one jumped on the boat and grabbed my water bottle. I grabbed both the bottle and the monkey - more out of not wanting a plastic bottle to end up in the mangroves. The monkey screeched and all his mates came over and screeched too. Quite intimidating and we backed quickly away to the middle of the river for safety!!
We then carried on deeper into the mangrove and stopped at a fish farm and saw what they were keeping. Tash fed a sting ray. After that we then went to the bar cave, got a torch and walked through, shone the torch all around and then saw them, absolutely loads of them all hanging upside down, it was eerie, along with their (false) reputation it did make your skin crawl a bit and we didn’t stay there longer than needed!! Glad we did it though.
That left a 30min ride through the mangroves and out to sea and back to base. The rocks and scenery were as impressive as anything we’ve seen throughout our time here. The limestone rising up is so imposing, we’re expecting much the same in Ha Long bay. It’s hard not to keep taking photos of pretty much the same thing all the time. But you can’t help it.
So as much as we were reluctant to do the mangrove trip we were delighted that we did it. And that wasn’t it, we stopped off at Black Sand beach quickly and then back to the Sky Cab. And sure enough, Hisham was completely right, we just walked straight in and scanned our wrist bands and got in the next cable car.
It’s the highest and steepest cable car in the world and it showed!! Tash didn’t overly like it much, it did make your legs go funny to be fair. At the top we then walked a trail to the Sky Bridge, just over 100 metres along and about 1.5metres wide. Obviously it was safe but it was scary as anything, especially the floor panels made of glass! That took all my will to step on one of them, im getting old!
The day was sunny and clear and the views were breathtaking. Walked around a few viewing platforms up there and Tash was ready to come down, her legs couldn’t take it anymore.
We then went around the corner to the Seven Pools waterfall, walked up about 500 steps but it was well worth it as we could jump into the pools that were there being fuelled by the mountain water coming down as rapids. Stayed there a bit enjoying the cooling water and finally came down telling Hisham we were good to go home now.
So a very packed day but we feel we got to see and do a lot of things that would have been a pain to organise using Grab and local knowledge so we were very happy.
Back home now and we slept for hour by the pool as we were shattered. After showers etc we then watched the sun set, it was fantastic this evening, very red sky. After that we spent the evening in Cenang again. Lovely Chinese meal and then a nice bar next door where the drinks were reasonable so had a couple of cocktails and beers and played cards.
Tash even got Poundland glasses to replace the ones she’s lost - cost £21.00 though, so she’d better look after these ones better!
The bar sorted the grab home for us as we had no internet.
Another good evening here. We have enjoyed the slower pace for a couple of days and because we’ve done a lot today we’ll take it easy and have a beach day tomorrow.
