Up at 9.00am.
I went out and picked up croissants and orange juice and we were out before 10.00am — doing well!
Off to Gellért Hill first and the views were absolutely worth it. Clear skies, bright light and the city laid out beneath us — stunning. Then it was downhill and over the bridges, the heat starting to build as the day went on.
Stopped for beers at a decent bar, then carried on walking and sightseeing our way through the city.
Eventually we reached Budapest Castle, crossed the Chain Bridge, past the Shoes on the Danube and on towards Parliament — such an emotional and powerful spot.
On the walk back we hit the Lángos queue — long wait but totally worth it, hot, filling and exactly what was needed. Then on to St Stephen’s Basilica before stopping for a few beers in the park near our place. A group of lads on a stag do nearby provided some background entertainment.
Back to the apartment for a 45-minute power sleep, then out again.
Stopped at a café for beers, followed by a walk along the river.
At 6.30pm we boarded the boat — window seat, perfect timing.
Meal and drinks buffet, great views, live music (a man very keen on tips!). We moved between the inside and outside decks as the light changed. Within ten minutes it went from light to full darkness and suddenly the city just lit up — absolutely spectacular views and photos. We can see why it's called the Blue Danube - it was striking
After 90 minutes, we disembarked and walked along the river for about half an hour to the For Sale Bar — quirky, fun, live music, one beer and then home.
Stopped at the shop for two cans (not four!) 😂, played a few hands of cards, and then bed.
✅ End of Day Summary
A proper full Budapest day — viewpoints, historic landmarks, street food, river cruise, live music and late-night cards. Hot, busy, tiring in the best way — and the Danube at night was the standout moment. Another cracking day.
