I don't get all the hype about Mitchel Johnson's fast bowling in the first Ashes Test, how on earth would they have coped against Malcolm Marshall, Curtley Ambrose, Joel Garner and Courtney Walsh?!? Doesn't bear thinking about!!

Not the best week
A long and arduous week today, finished off not very well with an email from Jason and a client criticising my work with them. On checking the email thread and CRM I am really surprised by the feedback so have spent this morning replying. Waste of my time but also my energy, I was driving to work in St Albans yesterday mulling it over for the whole hour in the car and that does affect your attitude. Guess I just need thicker skin sometimes!! Ah well, building my case in reply this morning has been useful as I can see they’re wrong. But at the same time, I’ll take the comments on board and will learn from the experience!
The week was disjointed a bit as I went into Raintree on Monday instead of Wednesday and it seemed to throw my clock, I was in London on Tuesday, St Albans Wednesday, Leicester Thursday and back to St Albans Friday so it’s been out and about all the time and I’ve not got much done in the evenings when home. So this weekend is going to a be a big blitz on my work!
Went out into Oxford last night as the Xmas Market started and then we met up with Amanda and Bryn and went to Prezzo for a meal. Julio and Louise were in there with friends and family and they looked well. Had a great Calzone – biggest one I’ve seen – lovely. It turned into a nice evening and they were good company, haven’t seen them in a long time.
What else? The Ashes started on Thursday, the only problem being that they run from midnight so we miss all of it. On Thursday night England were crowing and pleased as they got the Aussies down to 263-8 but we were a lot quieter on Friday morning as we managed an all too familiar (for my generation!!) batting collapse from 80-2 to 126 all out!! Embarrassing! Haven’t heard the score this morning but I was still up and 1.30am last night and Aussies were back to about a lead of 250 with 10 wickets to spare, I don’t think we’re going to win, or even draw, this one.
Share Update?? After my Blinkx shares made it to 230p they dropped in three days back to 200p…if only I’d sold and reinvested eh?? They rallied yesterday back to 211p and I hope that blip is all it is, I kept firm with my conviction that they’re going to be good in the Summer. Mind you, they’re broken even and I have enjoyed the spectacle of the ebbs and flows so it’s been fun. Taylor WImpey shares are quietly increasing as well, they’ve hit even now as well. The only downside are the Fortune Oil ones that Martin recommended, again, I’ll sit tight and watch!!

Not so good fortune
Okay so I got a little excited and confident and put some more money into the shares pot this week and now have £1,000.00 in there, or at least I should have!! Not a good day with the FTSE or my Blinkx shares as they’ve dropped 10% in two days, very disappointing. So as it stands two weeks later I am below break even, but it’s interesting and hopefully in the long term there will be the growth I am expecting/wanting.
I don’t think I am nervous about the drop, luckily it’s not big money that we’re talking about, hopefully tomorrow will be a new day and we’ll see some better progress!
Typing this on the way back from London, been a decent day with Galore Park who are based in Hodder Euston Road now that they’ve been taken over. Seemed strange going over all the same things as I did in February but it was okay and Caroline and Emily took on board what we went through. A few action points to deal with later!
Didn’t make the gym at all over the weekend so should try and get up there tonight when I get home, although I will probably have to go and get Jack
Problems with the kitchen as well – the measurements are wrong. Nightmare and really disappointing as it’s going to cost us money, pissed off to be honest, not good. Luckily for us Barry checked the measurements last night and noticed it. I am cross that we didn’t check it up but at the same time, that’s what you pay a professional kitchen designer for. Well, will see later where that leaves us.

Fit or Bust…Part 2
Went to the gym after working at Raintree last night as I couldn’t make it at lunchtime because of hassles with Jack’s lunch. It was a lot better already, managed 15 mins running, 25 mins rowing, 20 mins cycling and some other exercises, combined with eating less food that went quite well indeed.
So I have 3.5 weeks left to get sorted as much as possible, didn’t play last night but thankfully City Vets won against North Leigh so that was pleasing. I must admit I am not missing it so I think I might take the rest of the year off from football and then make a comeback in the Spring. I just don’t feel fit enough to play and that’s where the injuries are coming from.
My shares did well today, currently running at a 10% gain, not bad and makes me want to invest in others but need to exercise patience, I did call the Life Assurance people about my shares to see what I could do to change them and I will look at making these amendments over the coming days. Bit concerned as it looks like the ones that I want to buy are not ones that I can buy, most odd – will need to have another phone conversation!
Sat in the car again at Jack’s football, it’s quite a productive time for me where I can catch up with things and plan ahead. 4 pages of my note pad have just been thrown away so great news!!
Emily Bull’s birthday today, will hopefully get back to Sue 9G’s house in time as they are all there so it would be good to see her.

Fit or Bust
Tash and I have signed up for 4 weeks membership at the gym at the Oxford Hotel in a bid to get fit ahead of Christmas. We went up there today and she, Charlotte and Zoe went to the spinning class whilst I just occupied the gym. I wasn’t very good to be honest and struggled, my fitness is at an all time low so hopefully by the time these 4 weeks are finished I will feel better about myself and more positive!
So I only managed about 10 mins jogging and 15 mins rowing, did some cycling as well, it’s a start but it needs to improve quite dramatically!

Greed is good…
Ok I am not quite Gordon Gecko but after weeks of umming and ahhing and reading all sorted of emails and websites I took the plunge today and join the Stock Market. Investing £500.00 in two stocks I tipped my toe in the water and spent all day refreshing my web browser to see what was happening…certainly something I need to get out of the habit of doing!!
So I invested £250 in Booker and Blinkx following ‘advice’ from the various website and brokers that seem to be getting a decent success rate. We shall see, so watch this space!! As it stood by the way, at the end of the day I was even, but if I sold my shared the £5 per trade charge would take that from me and I’d have made a loss!
Will try and add to the portfolio but it’s all going to be kept as a surprise and I hope that by the end of next year I will have £5k in the pot. That’s my target that I am aiming for anyway, we shall have to wait and see…and that’s just it, it is a waiting game!

Charlotte’s Piano Exam
Sat outside Rye St Anthony typing this as waiting for Charlotte to complete her Grade 6 Piano Theory exam. She’s fairly confident ahead of this as she’s done some sample papers and has done well with them, but an exam is obviously different. Hopefully she’ll be fine and i am sure she will be. No doubt she’ll come out from it saying it was awful! Lots of younger kids were going in for the exam which made her a bit embarrassed, no need to be but that’s Charlotte.
She came out and said it went okay – not much we can do now but wait
Earlier today I met with Allan Smith in Costa in Summertown and had a decent catch up with him. It was interesting to hear how much he’s still involved with EdCo and also Raintree, sounds like he’s been quite instrumental in the changes taking place at Raintree with feedback on Rep Sales and the like. It was good to see him and have a chat, he was pleased that things are going well for me so that was nice.
Day two of the work on the kitchen today, they knocked through another wall – there’s dust everywhere, it’s not nice to be honest but you have to just accept it!

Firework Night..
Remember, remember the 5th of November. Actually, I’ve happy to forget it, not a very good day today. I wanted so much to get up to date with work but it was a shit day work-wise, found it really hard to get focused and do anything productive. It was one of those days where I seemed to spend the whole time in my Inbox, not productive at all!
The work on the kitchen started today as well. Barry and his son turned up and ripped down the ceiling, dust and mess everywhere, it’s not nice! It will be hard work to cope with this but it will be worth it in the future when it’s all completed.
In the evening we went out to the Plough for their firework display, Wayne, Kerry and the girls came over and it was nice enough, Mum and the student Amelie also came along. Usual thing.

Tasty Treat…
Jack had training in the morning and I worked in the car for the time and then we went round to Mum’s to collect the tile cutter and had a cup of tea and some cakes…spoilt as usual!
Once back home I then worked on the tiling and got them put up before going into Oxford to meet Tash and Nikki, they’d been Xmas shopping and Tash was feeling a bit guilty after all her nights out so I was invited along! I met them in Ask and we had a meal and a few drinks – two bottles of wine and 3 large Peroni later we were ready to stay out and have a few more drinks so we went next door to the Cock and Camel and had a pint before Victoria and Emily turned up to take us and then Nikki home at 6.00pm.
Got home and just carried on drinking and catching up with some of the programmes on the planner – not a productive night at all! We paid for the meal as Nik had paid for Tash recently but it came to £90.00 – not quite what we’d planned but it was fine and it was really nice to get out and have a ‘grown-up’ meal and time for a few hours. Glad that I went and should organise it with Tash more often

Busy Saturday
Got bloody loads done today…
Up bright and early (around 6.45am) and went downstairs and worked on my Accounts for an hour or so in terms of raising invoices and making sure everything was balancing. Jack stayed at Danny’s last night so I went and did the paper-round for him and then when I got back finished off the Accounts – the work I’d done a couple of weeks ago paid off because I got the balancing and the updates done perfectly, no messing about with finding lost money!
I also took the chance to update the investment prices that I have been keeping an eye on. Lately I have been interested in dipping my toe into the Stock Market so I have been doing some research and checking the prices on stock recommendations to see if the Brokers are successfully advising Buy proposals. I have an account set up and today the PIN came through so I’ve uploaded £500.00 to start investing on Monday…bit nervous, going to keep it quiet and see what happens.
Once all that was sorted I got out into the garden with Tash and worked on chopping the trees back and then got to work on the bathroom tile that got broken in Charlotte’s party, all was going fine as I was chipping away the grouting until I got a little impatient and chipped another tile, so I had to start digging that one out, and I went and chipped a third one…couldn’t believe it…managed to reign in my enthusiasm and got the three out with no further problems. Realised as I was about to put the new ones on that one of them had been cut to size and it was the key one so I couldn’t proceed. Spoke to Mum and will collect the tile cutter tomorrow after Jack’s football training session
I then went out and worked on the bikes that were broken, fixing Jack’s puncture and then popped round to Sue’s for a scone and jam and then I managed to catch up with the last hour of Django Unchained before going home to take Tash, Lucie and Chrissie into Oxford for a girls night out. Charlotte then asked me to take her and Rose to Rose Hill to see her friends and the lad from school who’s joined the army – Linus.
Got home and Jack was watching, and really enjoying Beverly Hills Cop and I then sat and worked. In fact I worked all night until 11.00pm when Charlotte text to be picked up and Tash did the same so I got them all in one hit.
Busy day like I said at the beginning, nice sense of achievement though and work is getting more up to date by the minute. What was interesting, I was ‘happy’ to sit there in the front room writing emails, getting work up to date and not watching TV or drinking, sometimes I wonder how much I do prefer working…
Oh, I won’t say how much I raised invoices for, but it was a very good month, can’t see me matching that for a long, long time – but I want to start ‘hiding’ funds from Tash so that I can surprise her in a couple of years time with a lump sum – aiming for £5k first in 2 years…I wonder!!

Interesting feedback..
Tough day today at Leicester, I was carrying out training for Lifecycle and specifically two new Lifetime users. That wasn’t the issue, their line manager (Diane) was involved and she’s quite a high profile at the company so I knew I would be under scrutiny and that was certainly the case. I was put on the spot quite a bit and contradicted on a couple of time with information I was passing on. I actually didn’t mind it because it was useful to see it from a ‘proper’ users perspective and what as a management team they’re expecting users to be doing so I was learning at the same time, it certain didn’t put my back up, just made me a little embarrassed that my knowledge wasn’t as hot as it should have been – action points added to my training list already!!
With all of Diane’s input the session lasted longer than planned but that was fine, it was good, but I didn’t feel a little deflated by the end and with the new that Russell is taking on a more sales/training role I was feeling the ground beneath my feet becoming a little unstable…until I left that is…
First Russell came in to explain further the role he’s likely to pursue and apparently when Carlos asked him if he felt he was comfortable to do the sort of training presentation and role that I do Russell replied ‘No way’, and Carlos apparently said, ‘I agree, Julian is different class!’ – so that was pleasing to hear!
I worked late on some other work and as I was leaving at 6.30pm I popped my head around Diane’s door to say thanks and we got talking for 10 minutes or so to get to know each other and she was really quite complimentary saying about my patience, delivery and knowledge (being better than Julie’s) – I was taken aback, I was expecting a much more punishing report to go back to Carlos!!
Although she did comment that I sound a lot posher that Jim!
So that was all very pleasing and a nice turnaround to the day when I wasn’t feeling so tip top.
Got home late as a result and didn’t do too much in the evening
Charlottes Halloween Party
That finished okay last night, she had a great time and everyone left on time so no problems. Very busy and quite a tense feeling having them all in there but it was fine and they all appreciated Charlotte hosting it. She’s even more popular now!!!
Only downside was one of the bathroom tiles got broken, so that’s a job for me over the weekend…

Halloween…ooh…spooky!
Busy day in working from home today, went well and got loads done
It was Halloween today and as is the case in Britain we seem to be getting more and more into it and like the Americans. We had a load of sweets and then from 5.00pm the front door didn’t stop being knocked on.It was fine but we soon run out and had to turn people away, that was a shame.
Earlier I had a greed to let Charlotte have a party in the evening and sat here typing this update at 10.40pm I am having some minor regrets!! It’s very full in here and very, very noisy! She must have about 35-40 friends all dotted around the house in fancy dress and getting very drunk. We went out to Sue’s to be out the way and were concerned what we’d come back to and it’s not so bad but it’s not enjoyable and makes you a little stressed about breakages and noise to be honest.
Only an hour and a half left as we said it needs to finish at midnight, we’ll see!
At Sue’s we ate far too much food and I took the opportunity to watch Django Unchained and I loved it. I still have an hour to watch but it’s such a good film, so much of what Tarantino has written and produced in this film is back to what you expected from Inglorious Basterds and Pulp Fiction. Have taped it so hopefully watch the rest of it over the weekend at Sue’s.
Bit nervous about work tomorrow, have a Sales Manager sitting in watching what I am doing so it needs to be good of course to impress!
Well, best try and get some sleep, can’t see how much I will get but have to get some and then at midnight kick everyone out and get some proper shut eye!

Just another day..
Worked at Raintree today and it went well, got loads done including re-installing all their reps laptops with Offline SPIRIT after they’d been wiped at the weekend. All change in the offices there and it’s hell of a strange atmosphere with so many people being made redundant. Jackie leaves tomorrow and we said our goodbyes and Sue leaves next week. If I remember I might get some flowers for her as she’s been really good to me this year in keeping me going and providing me with so much work to do.
I really don’t know my situation, I appear to have a decent understanding and working relationship with Miles which is obviously important, and hopefully as I keep delivering the good and a great service the value of my contribution will be recognised and appreciated. They would be mad to let me go as I get so much done for them, but I do have that nagging feeling in the back of my mind that I will shortly be for the chop. It would be a mistake!
Tash took Jack and Charlotte to London today on the coach to see Much Ado About Nothing and when I got home in the evening I caught up with a couple of programmes I like, second episode of Elementary and then the Blacklist. The Blacklist is a little nonsensical but I enjoy it as it’s serious and intelligent but at the same time it appears to poke a bit of fun at itself.
I then got a phone call from Tash as they were on the coach on their way home saying that she didn’t have the car keys. I went out to the Park & Ride in Headington to look for them, or more importantly that the car was still there which it was thankfully but I didn’t find the keys. I left the spare set on the wheel and came home so hopefully they’ll be okay, I just didn’t want to get through all the traffic again to try and meet them when they got home.
Back at Wolvercote I sat and caught up with emails and other work and I am getting closer and closer to being up to date, there will never be a time I am fully up to date but it’s a target to aim for!!
Also, did some more research on investing in stocks and shares…so tempted to dip my toe in the water but so nervous about it at the same time. I’ve kept a track of some of the recommendations to see ‘what would have happened’ so going forwards I will see if it’s worth my while going for it or not…
Watch this space!

Up to date…
Decent days work today. Worked hard in the morning and Tash has been out and about so it's been quiet quiet again
Had a two hour phone call with Scholastic which was with the UK, US and India on data mining. Seemed to go well but was quite hard work
Took Jack to training and got shed loads done in the car. It's nice being so up to date with work and getting to clear items that have been playing on my mind for a while
It's true that having these in the background do use energy in delaying and procrastinating.
Full on day tomorrow at Raintree as I have to build laptops and install spirit for them all. Should be fun!!
Not much else happening!!

Quiet house…
First day of the half term holidays today and the house is nice and quiet because Tash has taken Charlotte and Jack up to see Lewis in Huddersfield. Got a lot done but still odd even though in reality it’s no different to when I normally work from home, I guess it’s the thought of them enjoying themselves away and I feel as though I am missing out. Kept in touch with them and they caught up with Lewis and then took him out for a meal and they got home safely around 9.45pm
Tash was in the foulest mood when she got in which was a shame, and to top it off she then dropped her phone in the washing up bowl, luckily storing it overnight in the airing cupboard in a bag of rice seemed to do the trick and it’s working again…phew!
Not much else to report really. Managing to get up to date with work, which is nice but also a little concerning as it means I don’t have anything else to do and therefore no money coming in!!
Had a bit of time in the evening so caught up with the new series of Boardwalk Empire and also Elementary, both were brilliant and it’s great to have them back up and running. There is another series I used to watch but I can’t think of what it’s called for the life of me, it’s doing my head in!!
Aha, just Googled it, Banshee!! I need to set an alert to get the new series recorded – just done that as well, January 10th is now in the diary!!

Watching Jack playing football..
Decent weekend actually but Sunday was quite relaxed. I had to postpone the Summertown match against Oxford City because of a lack of players which is so frustrating so I got that sorted in the morning and then went out and took Jack to his Horspath match against Chalgrove. Tash went off to London shopping with Zoe so it was a dad’s day!!
Jack played left back again and had a decent game, performed well and after his initial couple of mis-placed passes or control got more confidence to play. it was a good game and there was decent football on a piss poor pitch and swirly, strong wind. It was tight and they almost threw it away to draw 1-1 until the goal that Chalgrove scored gave them the push they needed and they won 3-1. I enjoyed it and really wanted to get involved and say things, there’s lots they could be taught to improve in so many areas around the pitch, I will push my name forwards in future I think.
Driving home we got Charlotte’s laptop and then Jack and I treated ourselves to a McDonalds – wicked pleasure and it meant I was too full to eat at Sue’s when we went their for dinner. Dropped Jack in a local park and then worked on setting up the laptop – that took ages with all the installations etc but got it done by the end of the night.
Charlotte went out in the evening with some friends to the O2 down the Cowley Road, I dropped them down there, and she watched AlunaGeorge. She got a lift home and had a fantastic time, she’s loving her music and partying!!
Tash got home and sorted accounts etc out and then to bed, absolutely knackered.
Oh, tonight is due to be the worst storms to hit Britain for 10 years…Michael Fish said so!!

End of Birthday Celebrations..
Went out tonight to finish off my birthday celebrations as we had a quiet night last night and we went to Bills in St Michael’s street in the centre of Oxford opposite the Three Goats Heads. Mum and Derek also came along which was nice and they enjoyed themselves.
It’s a fairly new place and the atmosphere was great, really liked the place and the food was excellent. I went for the rump steak and could have eaten it all again, it was so tasty, really enjoyed it.
Everyone else liked their food and agreed on the quality so that was a relief. The puddings as well were lovely.
All in all a really good evening and a nice way to finish off the birthday week.
Charlotte drove, had a bit of stress going there but coming home she did really well, very smooth and confident. She’ll be passing in a couple of months I am certain

Happy Birthday…sort of!
45 years old today…fuck! How have I become this bloated, unfit waste of space in such a short space of time? I cannot believe where the years have gone, I was 18 only last year I’m sure!
So, how did I spent this birthday? Well, Thursday are the busiest family day with Tash working a long day, Jack having karate and football training and Charlotte having tuition so after this morning I was working from home and then we all met up in the evening for dinner at 7.30pm.
I was wide awake this morning so early, I have a lot of things on my mind with work at the minute so got up at 5.00am when I woke up and it worked a treat, I got so much done. Back upstairs to give Tash her cup of tea and Charlotte couldn’t believe I was making Mum a cup of tea in bed on MY birthday! Had the opening cards and presents ceremony, lovely cards and nice presents, I was pleased with books and smellies – can’t go far wrong with those. Also a quiet Ted Baker shirt, very normal so I need to get a new one!
Work went well and then in the afternoon Mum popped in and more presents and some money which was very generous, as soon as she left Sue popped round with a card, some cash and a box of After Eights – yum – and she took Jack to karate. I picked him up and now typing this in the Horspath car park avoiding working any more work…
Lewis texted as well so that was pleasing to get, said he’d call us later this evening so will look forward to that, probably on Skype.
Facebook was busy with people sending me messages which was nice to get, as I said on my post…”Today’s the day that my ego is either battered or bolstered!” – I think it’s been bolstered with the messages I’ve received!!
We had a relaxed evening in the end, watched a bit of TV and that was it…nothing too mad, couple of beers and bed!!
Time to look ahead to Christmas now I think!!

Birthday week starts earlier and earlier…
As Lewis is down and it’s my birthday on Thursday I think it’s a case of making the most of the time he’s here. In the morning we had Annie round and she cut all our hair and then Lewis, Charlotte and Jack went into town…can’t imagine what they were all going to town for?!?!
We stayed and worked in the garden, I attacked another tree and cut loads of it back which was a challenge and then we decided on another challenge and took Sue’s dog Bella out for a walk. Paul and Brendan were home so Bren came along as well. We only went as far as the Plough but on getting there realised it was closed so went back to Jacob’s Inn instead and Paul joined us for a pint…although I only had coffee!
Back to our house and Mum, Derek and Grandma turned up for an evening meal, more for Lewis than me to be honest but they rolled me out a cake and sang ‘Happy Birthday’ so that was fun. Grandma was in better form this evening, she’s been a bit morbid and hard work of late (reporting from my Mum) but for some reason she ended up on my office chair and was swivelling herself around which was a laugh.
They stayed until about 9.30pm and then we watch a bit of TV and then called it a night fairly early really. A nice day. Lewis left around 9.00pm to go into town and when he got home the next morning told how he’s been caught up with the Police as a suspect/witness for a beating up that had taken place. Two girls as well that he didn’t even know were involved along with 10 other lads. This was all going on at 2.00am and they had no idea what was happening and were kept there for about 2 hours until it was all sorted out. The police had to drop them home in the end as they’d caused them to miss their busses.
What is it about the Police and late nights with this family?!?!

Charlotte, Jessie J and Lewis coming home
Busy day at work today but got home in time for taking Charlotte and Rose to the Birmingham NEC for the Jessie J Concert that was postponed earlier in the year.
Dropped them off and they wandered off to the convert and we then waited around for Lewis to travel down from Huddersfield on the train to meet us for a meal. We couldn’t find anywhere decent so ended up in the Crown Plaza and he turned up at 9.00pm. It was great to see him and have a hug and then we had some food and caught up on all he’s been doing and the storied kept rolling out. He’s having a fantastic time at Uni and it’s great to see him so confident and enjoying himself.
At 10.40pm we met back up with Charlotte and Rose and then travelled home for just after midnight. They were catching with Lewis and it was great listening to them.
He’s staying round all weekend and then will get the train home on Sunday night. He’s meeting up with mates in Oxford on Saturday night and is really looking forward to that. Bless him!!
Oh, Charlotte and Rose were raving about Jessie J saying what a great performance it was – they had a fantastic time!

Working ‘oop North’
Spent the last two days in Altrincham near Manchester for Lifecycle training customers on the system. Seemed to go well and I was working with Carlos and Scott so it was good not to be alone for once. Learned a few interesting things and also Scott and I stayed up there for the next day and had a couple of beers and some food and a catch up in terms of interests and family life etc.
Good chance to get to know him and he’s a really likeable person so hopefully we’ll get on and do good things with the training side of the system. I don’t know how things might change in Julie’s absence, will take each week as it comes and see what happens. A decent couple of days work – but it did mean I didn’t get any other work done…need to get back on top of things pretty sharpish actually as I am letting a few people down with a lack of response in good time!
Shame I didn’t manage to get out to see Lewis, but we’re seeing him on Friday so we’ll catch up then.
England match is tonight, if they win then they’re off to Brazil for the World Cup finals, I don’t have any real interest if I am brutally honest. I am sick to death of the hype that goes with football, I think I’d actually like them to fail, they won’t, they’ against Poland at Wembley so it should be quite comfortable for them.
We shall see!!

Just an update
Training carried out in St Albans today with two reps from Charles Derby, went okay and caught up with Jimmy Austin so it was a decent trip. Stopped off at ASDA on the way home and got a load of beers in preparation for tomorrow when we have everyone coming round for the evening and a drink up. No particular reason but should be a laugh.
Did football training and that went okay and then got home and watched some of the England match versus Montenegro, it was shit, turned off at half-time (0-0) and they won 4-1. So over-rated it’s painful.
Was about to go to bed at 10.45pm when Charlotte asked me to take her to a party in Lime Walk – for some reason I agreed and got her there. Sat here waiting for a text to go and get her – hopefully that makes me a good Dad in her eyes…I’m trying my best!!

Nikki and Gaz Anniversary
It was there 25th Wedding anniversary today and we all met up for a ‘surprise’ meal at Pizza Express in Bicester for them. All the family turned up including Nathan and it was a really good evening. Not sure how much of a surprise it was but Jess organised it so it was nice to have dome something with and for them.
I had Calzone for the first time, very nice indeed and will definitely be on the look out for that in the future at other restaurants, I think I did best out of everyone in that regard!

Charlotte Birthday weekend & driving…
Just got home from taking Charlotte down to the Park & Ride where we practiced her driving ahead of her first lesson on Thursday. Tash has taken her once already and it all got a bit stressful I believe. So anyway we went down there and she was fine. Stalled so many times but I was patient and she got some good practice in. Spent an hour doing it and she got into 3rd gear at one point – something Tash wasn’t allowing when she took her out
It was Charlotte’s birthday at the weekend and I think she had a good time. She was partying at Lula’s on Friday, went to Oxford St in London on Saturday with Rose and was supposed to be having Rose, Bradley and Joel coming over. Joel couldn’t make it at the last minute so she cancelled and we just had a nice family night in watching TV. Sunday we had football and she was working at the Plough but we’d arranged for the family to all come over for evening tea and that was a laugh as usual. Not drunk or mad but just noisy and lots of fun. Skyped Lewis and he was involved for a bit.
Great to see everyone and was all done and dusted by about 8.30pm so not a crazy night!
She enjoyed herself so that was important and she’s been quite well spoilt with the presents that she had received

Belfast
Yesterday I worked at Raintree and then travelled down to Bristol airport and flew over to Belfast. Got to my hotel and it was lovely. Intimidating place though, run down and the murals are everywhere.
Loads of union flags though and very loyalist around where I was. Proud people. Read on Wikipedia about the history and the Troubles over food and a couple of pints. Did a small amount of work before bed Shit nights sleep, dreamt I was chased in my car by the mobs and the IRA supporters an the police wouldn't help me. Scary!!
At the conference today at the Stormont hotel within sight of Stormont itself. Nice hotel and decent setting Set up the design etc and looks very professional!! Hopefully I won't bugger it up.

Globe Trotter…sort of
Only going around the UK but sat in Bristol airport typing this waiting for a plane to Belfast for a Lifecycle Conference tomorrow. I am then travelling to Glasgow and then back down here to Bristol – three conferences (Road Shows) in three days.
I’m going to be knackered
Tiffany and Paul’s Wedding
It was finally the wedding on Saturday and what a great day that was. A lot of build up and all that as you’d expect and thankfully it went really well and a was a huge success.
We spent the morning getting ready and I kept revisiting my speech as I was getting more and more nervous as the day progressed. I went and collected Paul from the Milton Hotel at 11.30am and came home and we went up to the Plough. Gradually people were turning up and we caught up Sunil and Adam. I wasn’t drinking, I was determined that I’d not fluff the speech and this was the order of the day to be honest!
The service went well, no hiccups and everyone looked fantastic, good turnout and the bridesmaids all looked beautiful, very proud of them. We all boarded an old-fashioned double-decker to the reception in Milton and had loads of photos outside in the gardens. I had one drink and then it was inside for the meal. I could hardly touch a thing, sick with nerves!!!
Finally the time came for the speeches and Mike was up first reading from about 4 sheets of paper, it went on for a long time and didn’t quite keep peoples’ attention, it was quite uncomfortable listening/watching to be honest but he ploughed on and we supported him as best we could laughing at the right places.
Paul was next and was much better, he was very sincere and didn’t attempt any jokes and was really well received. It was good for him, he was nervous as well but he did fine. Then it was my turn, when I stood I was shaking and my legs were like jelly, it was horrible. Thankfully it went really well, I had loads of jokes in it and varied between jokes, sincerity and seriousness, it lasted 18 minutes apparently, it did feel like a long time in retrospect. Got it over with and we could all relax and then drink and enjoy the party. It was late when we finished and evening guests were arriving so we got them all sorted and then partied.
We did what we do best and really went to town on the dance floor, such a good laugh. Must have been over 120 people all told in the end and as the party stopped around midnight we stayed up and continued downstairs in the bar area. Usual suspects, me, Gaz & Nikki, Liam & Zoe, Paul & Tiff and Mike as well. We did take advantage of him once by ordering a big round and making him pay for it, not nice but couldn’t help it.
Went to bed around 3.00am in the end…what a great day and night.
I was pleased as throughout the night so many people congratulated me on my speech and said how good it was. Adam, Justin and Sunil kept saying “Is there anything you’re not good at?” So that was very flattering, as they were referring to football, drinking and cooking! So yes, I did have a big head throughout the evening with all the people saying ‘Well done’
Thank God for that, I’d have been so disappointed if I’d fluffed it.
Below is the video from the wedding:

Three Cliffs Bay
We went away for a few days just as a family down to South Wales. We stayed at Three Cliffs Bay which is in the Gower Peninsula which is just past Swansea. Had a lovely time just the five of us and the weather was good and it was good fun. The campsite was lovely and then we went to a beach that enabled us to do surfing which is what we did yesterday all day, we all managed to get on the board at some point, the kids were all better than either of me or Tash unfortunately! We don’t mind though!
Treated them to a meal overlooking the bay at the Mumbles yesterday and came home today and back into the routine all too soon.
It’s nice to spend time together, we all get on and make each other laugh. Seems sad that the family will start breaking up now with Lewis going to University, very proud of him but it’s going to be so strange.
Anyway, lovely holiday and lots of fun memories in such a short space of time

Charlotte’s GCSE Results
Charlotte got her exam results today and she did well. We had a family competition last night to guess what she’d get and she was spot on. Tash and I went down to the school and waited as she turned up to collect them and she got all B’s and a couple of C’s but I think we’ll query those as it seems strange those were low. She was pleased and we were as well, probably could have got higher in a couple as she seemed to have high scored but it’s good enough.
She then went off for the day with all her mates and will be partying hard this evening no doubt!
Good for her, now to decide on the A-Levels that she’ll take

Bradford Uni? Nope Huddersfield Uni…
Lewis and Mum went up to Bradford today whilst I was in London training and they visited Bradford after Lewis had made this his first choice in Clearing and Mum (and me to some degree) wanted him to change. They kept me informed with what was happening and it sounded like Mum was coming round to the idea and accepting it. I suggested they still visit Huddersfield and they then immediately said they wanted to change.
They went into the Uni and spoke with people and all seems good. We were worried because all the feedback and comments suggest that changing your Clearing choice was never successful but it seems to be smooth as anything
So we’re happy now that he’s going to a much nicer place and all is happy again in the Dark household!! Now we need to pay for it all, it’s going to be a nightmare.

Charlotte back from Boardmasters
As we’re driving out to get Lewis, Charlotte is coming back from Newquay and her 5 days festival there. I’ve had no communication from her but she’s kept Tash up to date and she’s had a great time. She’s got another festival to go to soon, part animal, but it’s great that she’s making the most of her time.
Will be strange having a full house today after them being missing for so long
Have missed them
Update…Charlotte came home absolutely buzzing! She loved it and had such a good time, she couldn’t actually speak quick enough to get all the words out. She’s full of life and was in amongst mosh pits and on people’s shoulders and chatting to everyone. So proud that she’s got that sort of character. So much fun!
Lewis back from Costa Rica
Typing this on the M40 (Tash is driving) as we travel to Heathrow to pick him up. We’ve had a few updates throughout the fortnight and he’s had such a fantastic time. His last posting on Facebook saying that he’s had the best fortnight of his life – so that’s all you can wish for. Looking forward to seeing him and finding out how it all went properly, he looked very grown up in one of the photos that he’d uploaded, our little boy is turning into a man!!
I wonder how long me or Tash will leave it to ask how many of the 14 condoms he took he’s coming back with!!
Update – he had the best time ever and it looked incredible. Told us so much about the experience and loved it.

Italy Holiday–Day Seven
Breakfast and then to lake late this morning. Everyone tired and a few with earache
Sat around and red books, started on my Game of Thrones, wish I'd started it sooner as its so good
Back for lunch then Wayne and I went shopping and then a walk round the lake to get a pedalo or two. Waited a while as it was so damned busy and we thought we might have to wait until tomorrow. But we got two and they had slides. Good fun. Very deep and messed about.
Slept afterwards and slowly made way back to home. I was last and fell asleep.
Back home made a BBQ and it took ages. Not sure why. Then all of us went down to the jetty and that was a laugh. The girls were all singing loads of songs and every now and then the girls from another jetty sang as well or clapped
The stars were amazing as well
Back home for 12.30
Early start tomorrow. Bugger!!
Probably won’t have time to write about Day 8 but basically we went to Milan and saw the San Siro – fantastic but on getting back to the cars Wayne and Kerry’s had got broken into and their passports were all there! We had to leave them behind at the airport – absolute nightmare, they got back the next day but tears and stress as you could imagine!

Italy Holiday–Day Six
Went and got some bread and water before breakfast and then watched Jack playing football before coming down to the lake for the day
Up for lunch and then went and had a sleep for 30 mins before playing Wayne for two hours at table tennis. Closer this time as he won 7-6 in games. Also played Jack, not a bad little player
Back down to the lake and the kids have made new friends. Jack hurt his back
Nice and relaxed all day. Listening to music and snoozing on the beach. Great life!!!
Big salad for dinner that was good
Kids went off with some other kids from the homes nearby and we then went for a walk alongside the lake which was nice. Very busy. Bumped into the kids and let they stay and then carried on and sat in a bar and listened to a group with an eccentric singer and had a beer there
Walked back around midnight and kids still on jetty. Home to bed

Italy Holiday–Day Five
Down to the beach after a nice breakfast and checking emails. I wandered around the table tennis and then the football pitch before going down to the beach. Really hot today, hottest day so far.
Messed about on the jetty and then a snooze before Wayne and I went and played table tennis for an hour at 12.45. Lost heavily after being 2-0 up to lose 7-2. Not good enough!! Good standard though
Had lunch at the holdys and then left Charlotte and Rose with their friends they've made and went to Sermione. Wasn't too sure what to expect but got there fine and it was lovely. An old place that had a fort and we walked through the old town to the beach and the roman ruins.
Back into town and great place. Quick ride on a train and then found somewhere to eat. Salad and bruschetta. Gorgeous
Back home around 9.30 and the kids found Charlotte and Rose and they went out with the lads but came home at midnight giggling as their night didn't pan out as expected. No one out
We drank and played bananagrams all night and then bed at 12.45am
Really good day.
No driving tomorrow I hope!!
Funny in the restaurant and the free wifi, everyone getting very excited and on Facebook and WhatsApp to catch up with everyone. Sad really that we’re so reliant on Social Media...
Dolt and Fop!! Nice words to use that weren’t believed!

Italy Holiday–Day Four
Up at a normal hour now, and had breakfast on the porch before packing up and making our way to Canerva which is a water park. Worried about queues and that but it was fine. Some great flumes there and everyone had a great time. Wayne and I did the Stuka drop which was horrible. Very nervous on that and Jack and Wayne did it at the end which I videod. Went on loads of others and all really good. Enjoyed the drop one and inflatable, Tash and Chloe and then Rose and Charlotte didn't get over the hill but Wayne and Nic and me at Jack did. Fatties
Stayed all day and then back home for pasta and bolognaise and a few beers. There was a pool party that the kids went to and we wandered down and Wayne and I went in as well. When it finished went back to Holdies and played cards and bed at midnight
Charlotte and rose got in then as well as they'd met up with some lads

Italy Holiday–Day Three
Up earlier...not much done in the morning. Then down to lake and had a laugh
Lunch at 2 and then headed for Verona. Went wrong way and 49 min drive ended up over 2 hours
Walked around the city and well worth the journey it was lovely
Ice creams, meal and drive home.
Beers and the kids went out. Bed at mid-night and they're not home, except Jack. Hope they’re ok
Really lovely day. Verona was excellent. Romeo an Juliet balcony and other lovely buildings. The arena was fantastic, I liked that

Italy Holiday–Day Two
Lay in. Everyone knackered. Up at 10.00
Breakfast at Holdy’s and then down to the beach
Found a great Jetty which was quite deep and spent the morning jumping off into the lake.
Found a better one that was higher and the water deeper which was better and meant we could try other things. Even a back flip!!
Had a big lunch back at the home and more swimming and sleeping And then walked along the lake to explore. Beautiful views. Had a beer and the BBQ in the evening and a few more beers. Kids went off to the disco and had fun.
Played bridge and bed at 12.15am

Our New Heir to the Throne
Travelled up to Halifax today to work with Frogtrade. Bloody long journey, I don’t know how many miles it is but it’s over 3 hours driving which is tough going so about 180 miles but I’m absolutely knackered by it. Driving home I stopped in a Service Station as I often do and slept for an hour and then ate lots of crappy food and sweets and anything that’s unhealthy!!
It’s been hard this month motivation-wise and I need to get back on track on behalf of the business otherwise things will lose momentum and the work will dry up.
However, the big news today on the radio is that Kate Middleton went into labour today and she had a baby boy in the end after a long time – so our future king was born today – George! No idea if I will be alive when he ascends to the throne – interesting thought really.
Derek’s new knee…or half a new knee
Not sure which at the minute but Derek went in to get his knee sorted and will be in hospital for the next couple of days. Him and Mum were down there at 7.00am and had to wait until 3.00pm before going in for surgery, what a waste of time! Hopefully that won’t be the feeling when he gets to walk on it and it would be great if this sorts out the problems he’s been having with it. We shall see soon enough.
Fingers crossed!

Jack Karate Grading–Brown/Black Belt
Jack’s karate grading today, he went from brown belt to brown black and he passed which means he’s now one level below becoming a black belt. He has 12-18 months to train for it but I am very proud of him to achieve the level he’s got to at such a young age. We know what he can do and it’s great he’s realising his potential
He looked good in his katas and his routines and especially when it came to sparring he was excellent. Something he really enjoys and getting stuck in. He’s very quick and hard to get to grips with but also any wrestling he’s right on it and very strong as well. He’s quite fearless.
When he and Ben Murray went against each other it really was quite competitive and it was good to watch. It wasn’t nasty but there was an edge that the other sparring didn’t have. It impressed people watching and made me & Tash feel even more proud than we already were
Lewis got involved as well, it was nice seeing him involved as a Grading Instructor but he dealt with a few fights and it was good seeing his control and authority and being better than any other student there. Had his own desk as an instructor and it was great watching him grade the boys, handing out the belts and talking to them which is exactly what we’ve had to watch him receive when grading. Made him look older and must be nice to Mary/Rob to see him mature like that
I should put together a compilation of their gradings over the years as
As a treat we then went to Pizza Mama Mia as this is what Jack’s been desperate for and been promised it for a while – he was delighted. A nice way to finish the weekend off.
Jack’s Karate Grading
Grading and Pizza Mamma Mia
Not much more to add other than the comments above!!
He did really well, fought well and got into some scrapes but it was so good to watch, very proud of him, he’s good!

Charlotte to Bournemouth
Took Charlotte and three friends (Mae, Georgia and Hannah Charles) down to Bournemouth today. Got down there really quick time with no hassle and dropped them right by the Aquarium, I then went along to Durley Chime and found somewhere to park and walked back into the Town Centre – it was so bloody hot it was unbelievable. Set up camp in a Costa Coffee shop – no air conditioning – and worked for a few hours. Kept in touch with Charlotte and she was having a great time on the beach.
For lunch I sat by the balloon and then went to the other Costa for a change in scenery! Charlotte wanted picking up around 6.30pm and we then walked along to get the car.
They all had a great day and appreciated me driving them there so that was pleasing
It was interesting on the way down there as two of them had never been to Bournemouth before and Charlotte was astounded. “What?!?! I have practically grown up there!”. She then took control getting dinner as well by taking them to the usual chip shop and saying that we always eat from there.
It’s nice to feel we’re giving her experiences like this and also giving her ‘traditions’ that hopefully she’ll see through with her kids…

How much for an oven?!?!?
We had an appointment with Miele today out at Abingdon and instead of just being allowed to wander around a showroom we had a chap called Chris walk us round and tell us everything you could ever need to know about ovens. I won’t bore you on here, although it was actually very interesting indeed and I can see why some people are very good cooks if they have all the help from the oven that these were offering.
I think that these are going to be out of our range but it was an exciting hour to compliment the hour on Saturday at Crown so hopefully we can find something close to what’s on offer there. I had no idea ovens could offer so much!!
Tennis weaknesses exposed cruelly
Flat out busy today and sweltering in the sun again but Jack ask if I would play him at tennis down at Ally Courts. I really didn’t want to but thought back to the book that I had read about spending time with the kids when they want to spend time with me because all too soon they won’t want to spend any time with me and it prompted me to cycle down the road with him.
Was a bit nervous about using the facilities without paying but apparently it’s okay, so we had one ball between us and match a set, I was useless and he was quite good. We had a laugh and it was really good fun, I am so glad that I did it, I need to spend more time with him and the others as well. Perfect example is Lewis leaving home soon, I won’t have that time again with him.

Paul & Pauline’s Party
BBQ and a few drinks!
Quite a few more than a few drinks as you would expect!!
Can’t remember much more, the note above is all I had…

Paul’s Stag Weekend
Had a really good time!
Didn’t expect it to be – great bunch of lads, I started picking the lads up from Oxford around 10.15am, went to Tesco’s and got some food and drink and then drove to Leicester
They started drinking, when we got to the place there were four army tents that allowed you to have 8 men each, then also 4 tee-pees that would house about 4-5 people easily and they had stoves to keep you warm and cook and then also army bunk beds
Relaxed from 4.00pm onwards with drinks watching other people turn up and got to know the lads I was with. Had a kick about and then I did the food as usual – BBQ food, but other blokes were there for Stag weekends (no Hens whatsoever) so all very ‘blokey’. Everyone just mixed in with everyone else – had a shed load of beers and then crashed out
Saturday morning – bit of breakfast, again I cooked, then we went gorge scrambling which entailed being in waterproof boiler type suits, wellies and wearing helmets and then literally crawling and scrambling through this huge great stream. Over, under and through – it was really good fun – such a laugh, didn’t expect it to be to be honest – we all enjoyed it.
Team-building experience, after a few attempts to empty your wellies of the water you just gave up and accepted you were going to be soaked throughout. Wet to the bone.
At the end of that, knackered, stopped for a beer then back to the campsite – more beers. Loads of us just had 20 mins shut-eye and then got ready to go out and the lady at the campsite organised a minibus to get us into Ashbourne. Nice enough village, Paul didn’t want to go to derby or a City, I think he was worried about us stitching him up and wanted it to be quieter and a normal night out but we had no plans to do that to him.
Got dropped off at a wine bar and it was a bit subdued and quiet and you could tell people were thinking it’s 7.45pm and this place is dead, is this really going to be our night until midnight. Had some food and played drinking games to try and liven up and make the best of it when Sunil came back from the toilets and said, “Guys, you’ve got to come with me and go downstairs”.
Went downstairs – it was heaving and was a huge rocking disco – we’d been missing out of this and thought the wine bar was as lively as it gets in Ashbourne!! So we were happy now!
Phoned the Taxi man to change pick up time from 12.30am to 2.00am and then just partied and it was really good fun and a laugh. Thought it was a gay club initially as it was packed with blokes but that soon changed as the evening bore on, no hassle or trouble or silliness, we just enjoyed our company and because there was nothing “extra marital” it was nice we didn’t have to hide anything when getting home and getting stories right.
So, Sunday I drove everyone home – was very hungover! Got them all home safely though and slept for about 4 hours in the afternoon, and that was it
Had a good weekend – look forward to seeing the lads again for the wedding.
Charlotte Prom and Crazy Bear Garden Party
Friday – Charlotte’s prom – all her friends turned up to our house and gradually her list of people coming got bigger and bigger and bigger! Obviously it was only a couple of drinks but it ended up about 40-odd children, many we didn’t even know. Everyone looked great and made such an effort. The lads all smart and the girls all in their nice dresses – it was exciting for them. Tash was making Vodka cocktails and I was handing out beers and loads of photos were taken.
I think they’d have been quite happy to have stayed out ours as it was nice weather and everyone was enjoying the atmosphere but they needed to leave to walk up to the hotel at the top of the road – all of them went and it looked great walking through the village. It went really well! Her mates all liked it as a pre-party and had said to her how surprised they were that me and Tash were handing out the booze – but in an hour they weren’t going to get hammered were they?
Picked Charlotte up the next morning – she was struggling – very tired! She’d only been asleep for an hour or two – unfortunately she said the prom didn’t really live up to expectations, the food and atmosphere was all a bit flat and they joking said it all started on a high at ours and went downhill as the night wore on. But she said it was good so I am pleased about that and she enjoyed herself and it was memorable.
Sounds like it could have been better – ah well.
Saturday was the garden party at The Crazy Bear. Jack had karate and Tash was working at a wedding so I picked her up about 3.30pm when it was over and we went over to Stadhampton for 4.00pm, saw a few people we knew and met up with John and Pauline and Julie and Mark and then had a good time relaxing and eating and drinking. We were in VIP section so that was a treat – as much of food and drink as we wanted and waiter service. So that was good! Music was fun, Stacey Solomon was there, as were JLS and Fun Loving Criminals. It was good, could have been better but they ruined it in the end as they had a great disco feeling going on and then at 11.00pm they stuck on some hill billy act and they were utter shit – completely killed the mood. Just because they’ve been at Glastonbury and it cleared the place – we left early at midnight.
Sunday – worked all day, either on customer work or raising invoices.
A really enjoyable weekend all told.

Stag Weekend approaching..
Well, tomorrow we’re off to experience the Army tents of a Stag weekend in Derby. I have been very nervous about this because I’ve done nothing to help organise this and feel guilty but at the same time I don’t know what to expect, I am going with Paul and 6 of his mates that I have no idea who they are, never met any of them!!
I spoke to the organisers today though and feel better as it sounds like it’s sold out and there are going to be about 55 people there from other Hen and Stag parties, so this should actually be quite interesting I reckon! Need to get all the stuff sorted out this evening and the tidied in the morning which we will then get started at midday.
Watch this space but remember, what goes on tour…
A-Levels all done…
That’s it then, Lewis has finished his A-Levels. Can’t believe where the last two years have flown by. He was quite confident today that it went well so now we just have to wait and see what happens. I’ll make a prediction now and see if I am close:
Physics – B
Maths – C
Physical Education – C
Obviously I hope that I am wrong as he needs much higher grades that what I have listed above but that’s my gut feeling. I am not sure what more we could have done to support him, we hired tutors and all sorts. I really hope he gets what he wants as he has worked hard and wants to go to Uni and this is his chance.

94 and counting…
Went to see Grandma today as we didn’t get a chance over the weekend as it was her birthday yesterday, she’s 94. As is expected with someone of this age she’s struggling with her eyes and hearing and her memory but everything else about her seems to be fine and she’s bearing up really well. She’s not struggling to live on her own and she loves it whenever I or anyone visits so it’s something I should do more often.
I took her round some flowers and a card and she was delighted, she then stood in the kitchen splitting the stems with this sharp knife, I was nervous but needed have been, she was fine.
As long as she can continue to live on her own and be supported by all the family in the manner that she is then I don’t see why she won’t live a few more years as there really is nothing to worry about with her it seems.
It’s great she’s still going. We all love her to bits

Summertown Stars Tournament
Had the annual 5-a-side today and thankfully it was nice weather. Jack played most of the games and was clearly very rusty indeed and he was part of the weaker team but both teams made it to the quarter finals and mine missed out on penalties but the other team made it to the semi final and then when 3-1 somehow manage to concede two shit goals and then lose on penalties, real shame as it would have been great to have made it to the final for once. Ah well
The parents had a whip round and gave me the usual Red Letter Day (worth £200.00) and some whiskey but then also a lovely card which I was really pleased with, some lovely comments in there.
Lewis’s team didn’t do too well but they had a good time.
Saw some old faces down there as usual and it was a good day, a bloody long day as it was from 9.00am until 5.30pm. Went to Sue’s afterwards and worked with Paul on sorting out the Stag weekend, that’s taking shape now and I feel better about that now.

High Ropes…and higher drop!
For the end of season event with the under 12s this year I took 7 of them and two dads (Michael and Nick) to the High Ropes Adventure in Culham where we used to do the Laser Tag gaming. It was very similar to what we’ve done with Go Ape or at Centre Parcs but just as enjoyable. After a detailed safety briefing we were then let loose on the course and it was great fun.
What was pleasing is that the lads were loving it even as we were going round and they were thanking me for it at the time.
We all had a great laugh and it was competitive and supportive at the same time.
We then finished with a drop platform which everyone did I did last, it was only 30 metres high but it was horrible and I really didn’t like it and was the wimp. I took ages to step off into mid-air. I did it but I didn’t like it at all. I don’t think I could ever do a bungee jump to be honest, I was still worried about it when I went to bed! I am pleased I organise the session though as it was great fun and fantastic value for money

Jack’s Parents evening & exams..
Tash did the duty and went to his parent evening, I would have probably gone to this one but I was in Coventry with a customer so didn’t get back until late
Perhaps as expected he got a glowing report, they all seem to love him at the school so that obviously makes us all very proud of him and his achievements. They like his nature and enthusiasm but more than once said he needs to let other people have a chance!
Lewis and Charlotte are working hard on revision and exams and they seem to be doing okay. Lewis has a Match paper today and it made the news as it was a nightmare and was the wrong one etc. Not sure what will happen but it’s a huge balls-up. Hopefully the marking scheme will take this into account or they might have to re-sit, utterly ridiculous state of affairs though. What a shame – the story is on here and it was all over Twitter.

Jack back!
Picked Jack up from his weekend away at Kilvrough this evening and unsurprisingly he was buzzing! He had such a good time and was so full of all the stories etc, he absolutely loved every minute of it
Sounds like he's made some new friends which is obviously important. It was great to have him back home but he's like a whirlwind at the best of times and even more so this evening. Didn't think he'd go to sleep at all!
We also had a nice afternoon at the Risinghurst fete which was the same as last year. Had a few drinks and silly chatter as the norm!
A decent weekend all in all
Rewarding the kids..too soon?
We took Lewis and Charlotte out on Saturday night because they have been working so hard with their exams and revision and I’ve been working my nuts off as well so I think Tash felt we could afford the treat.
We were umming and ahhing over where to go and plumped for Joe’s down in Summertown. Lewis drove, we’re very lazy like that, and went straight there
Had a really good meal, it’s nice and relaxed there and Lewis had his usual rack of ribs – greedy git!
They’re both getting on really well which is nice and Charlotte just jokes all the time, always on a permanent high it seems.
Saw the Brimelows and also Thomo and Paula turned up and it was good to catch up with them. Paula had done the Triathlon at Blenheim Palace
Anyway, a very nice treat for all of us. We don’t do it enough!

Charlotte’s joined the gym
She’s so like Natasha is my daughter, it’s like having a clone in the house. She’s very focused, gets things done and likes lists. Not being critical, it’s great and it’s certainly helping her to be organised, productive and independent.
She’s now joined the gym up the road in Barceló and is disciplined enough to going there three times a week whether with Rose or on her own. It’s her own money and they all like her there so that’s great and she feels quite important I think as they greet her and know her name when she’s there. But she’s up and out at 8.30am on a Sunday morning as planned and does some swimming and in the gym.
Good on her. I’m especially pleased as she’s confident enough to do things on her own which is quite unusual for girls her age.

Free Wi-Fi
When we went to London to see Charlie & the Chocolate Factory (which was excellent by the way) we stopped at Prezzo for dinner and it was advertised that there was free wi-fi for users. The kids all have gadgets and wanted to get online so Charlotte asked the waiter what the password was to connect, this is the conversation:
Charlotte: Excuse me, what’s the password for the wi-fi please?
Waiter: It’s freewifi
Charlotte: Yes I know but I need the password
Waiter: It’s freewifi
Charlotte (showing him her phone): I need to type in a password
Waiter: The password is ‘freewifi’
I twigged when he’d said it the second time but we didn’t have laugh! Perhaps you had to be there, but it was bloody funny and we still tease her about it now whenever we’re near public wi-fi hotspots!

Jack back on his feet…
Thankfully the plaster came off today. We were worried that they would decide he needed longer for the healing process to complete but it was with relief for all of us that they cut it off him!
He can now go to Kilvrough and be involved and more importantly…do his bloody paper-round! That’s been a chore every morning arguing with Lewis and Charlotte over who’s going to do what, but it’s now back with Jack.
Not surprisingly he is walking around a little nervously but I am sure it won’t be long before he’s back to his normal self. He’s been great during this time but it must have been frustrating for him, he has so much energy to burn!
Good news anyway!

Weekend at Wendy’s
We took off on Saturday down to the South Coast and stayed at Wendy & Grahams for the night. They were obviously expecting us as it was planned and we were well and truly spoilt by them. They’re lovely and we had a very relaxed few hours there enjoying all the food Wendy loves to make – she’s an excellent cook as well so that helps! Cakes, lasagne, cheese cake…the works!
So the diet was well and truly on hold until the weekend finished!
We stayed until almost 5.00pm on Sunday, having had more food and also going for a walk along Weymouth front. We passed the Eco Campsite we stayed at with Wayne & Kerry and that bought back memories! We didn’t realise we were so close to them!
Graham and I chatted about my business and he was providing loads of advise which was really appreciated and I have taken that on board for going forwards in the next quarter for my work
Drove home and it was fine so we were well and truly refreshed for the week ahead. A nice way to end the kids half-term

First ever hat-trick!
We have one of those 1,000 Places to Visit before you die calendars and the last 3 days have been Naples, Monet's Garden and the Masai Mara...done, done & done...not a bad hat-trick

Catch up with Tucks
Andrew was over yesterday and I got a phone call from him to say he was at the Trout. Luckily I was working from home and had a clear spell so went out to meet him and he was with his sister and parents. They all looked well and the weather was fantastic so we sat out by the river and caught up with things. I only had a shandy as I was working/driving later but it was good to see him.
He’s not up to a great deal and is travelling around as usual. Work’s not good in terms of performance which is a concern for him but he gets on and does what he needs to do. He’s off to Paris at the end of this week, meeting with a friend there.
Also over again in August to Italy for a break and cycling round there.
It was good to see him of course but I only stayed for 90 mins as Jack was home being sick so I couldn’t leave him for long really. Glad I went though

Jacks Disco and Dream Team selection!
Worked from home today for the first time in ages and it was a great opportunity to catch up with things that have been dragging on. The only problem was that the weather was lovely so I ended up outside working on the patio and got burnt! First time in the sun since last year so hardly a surprise, just a bit embarrassed..or red faced…
Jack went to his school disco in the evening and came back ‘full of it’. There was a dance off and he told us about the other kids and then said what he did on his turn, sounds like he blew them away with his gymnastics and dance routine, it was good to listen to him being so positive. Very talented and able boy…
We were also having a clear out of things and Tash came across a sheet of paper that Jack had been writing on and it was a Dream Team selection he’d sorted out and it was so funny I put it on Twitter, a few friends thought it brilliant, which I agree…see what you think:

Knackered.com & OUFC Youth Team Professionals
Worked my bollocks off today at Raintree, over 10 hours in their office with so much to get through. Nice feeling by the end of the day but so tired. Early night I think.
Interesting read in the morning, Oxford City are playing Oxford Utd this evening in the Senior Cup final and it was showing that 3 OUFC lads from the Youth Team were going to play have just signed professional contracts there. Reading the names I saw they were Sam Long, David Lynn & Callum O’Dowda who were lads in my under 9’s Centre of Excellence team. Obviously I cannot claim any sort of credit for it as it was 9 years ago and they’ve done their own thing with other coaches but I was delighted to see that they’d made it.
Hopefully they’ll do well and progress, I’ll be keeping an eye on their futures

End of an Era
Lewis’s team had their last Youth level match today. Away at Steventon and they won 3-2 which was good. Lewis didn’t play because he was doing a karate grading but I went along and it was a good performance. We then went to the Dew Drop pub later to watch some football and have a couple of beers and say good-byes. They’re a good bunch but I don’t think they’ll keep in touch in the same way that we all do but we’ll see

Weekend away, Red Letter Day…
Tash and I went away on Friday afternoon to Kenilworth to use the Red Letter Day that I always get from my Summertown parents and it was lovely. I worked in the morning to catch up with a few things and then made our way to the hotel. Nice place, perfect for conferences and was busy with people attending. We grabbed some golf clubs and went around their pitch and putt, as expected we were both useless but it was a laugh.
Read some papers with a coffees and then went into the swimming pool and sauna. I can’t swim well and hate it but Tash was up and down doing her lengths. After that we had a drink and then went for our meal, it was very good indeed, had another drink once we finished and then to bed quite early.
I took a notepad with me and we sat and made notes about things we want to do and achieve in the coming months/year so that was motivating. Just need to plan and action all the points we’d made..watch this space…

Tasha’s Birthday
So another birthday comes and goes…started in the usual manner, presents for Mum in the morning in bed, nothing too huge, lots of little ones but she seemed happy with what we’d got her. Normal working day for me in St Albans but she was treated at work as you’d expect. They love her there and got her presents etc so she had a lovely day there.
Getting home to collect Jack from karate was a nightmare, traffic accidents and all that but got him dropped off in the end and then me, Tash, Zoe and Sue got a taxi to the Dew Drop in Summertown where we met with Nikki and Gaz to have a drink and then went next door to Joe’s where we had a table booked.
The food at Joe’s was great, and then there was a Bryan Ferry tribute act afterwards which was very good. We got through some of the drink and everyone had a really good time. Even treated myself to a Mojito at the end of the night instead of a coffee! Lewis was our taxi to come and pick us up which was great, not sure how soon the novelty will wear off though!!!
Another year older, was a good birthday and the rest of the weekend looks like being fun, I am sure we’ll drag it out for her…

Interesting Day today…very Polish
Went to Crewe to visit a customer for Lifecycle today and they were 100% Polish. They intend to only work with Polish and Russian community. I didn’t mind, they were friendly enough but I didn’t like how they spoke in Polish nearly all the time…thought that was quite rude. I couldn’t have installed anything on their PCs or Laptops as those were all foreign language as well!
Met with Jason in the Deddington Arms on the way home and saw loads of people from Hodder as they were having their sales meeting there. Of all the places!! Said Hi to Janice and that was nice.
Worked into the evening, although I have a VERY early start tomorrow to get to the other side of Cardiff for Daydream SPIRIT training so can’t stay up much more writing this.
I have created a list of action points that I need to try and tick off each day and adding a diary note is one of them, not sure how long it will last but we’ll see. Just need something of interest to say.
Oh, Bayern Munich stuffed Barcelona 4-0 in the Champions League semi-final this evening in Germany. The strange thing though is that Bayern can’t go to Spain next week thinking they’ve done the job. How odd much that feel that you’re 4-0 up and must still be nervous about the return leg…surely though that is one step too far for the greatest team we’ve ever seen…or is it?

Diet Update
So far so good…I am logging my calorie intake again and have kept below the recommendation every day and yesterday I found I’d lost 4lb so that was a pleasing thing to achieve.
Just need to keep up the low food intake and the exercise past this initial enthusiasm stage
Jack’s 12th Birthday
So this was Jack’s Birthday weekend and he made the most of it! he’s such a lovely lad he really is, lives life so fully.
On Friday we went to Aylesbury Theatre and watched the Mousetrap with Mum and Derek and it was really enjoyable. The kids liked it and it was a pleasant evening. Made us quite proud to hear Charlotte and Jack discussing it and Jack say that he preferred Shakespeare…not many 12 years old would say that I doubt!
Saturday was his birthday and I took him and three friends (William, Stefan and Ben) to paintballing in Reading. We were there from 9.15am until 3.30pm and it was a fantastic day, we all had a fabulous time. Well worth it and they were so well behaved and disciplined with not spending too much money, that’s the one drain on things is the amount it costs for the paint. We were all buzzing afterwards though, really good fun.
We then went to Sue’s in the evening and had dinner and made a fuss of Jack
Sunday we had football in the morning and lost to Rotherfield 4-3, Jack played well and handed out chocolate afterwards and then Mum and Derek came up for lunch, they’d watched and enjoyed the game, there was plenty happening in it!
He’s gone to William’s this evening as they have an Inset Day tomorrow so he’s going to the cinema as well.
He’s had a great birthday and really appreciates it all and kept saying so, like I said, he’s a lovely lad.

Back on the diet
So been out of the loop for a long time and middle age spread has sneaked up on me in the last year. Therefore, out for a 5 mile run yesterday and today back on the diet to watch what I eat to see if I can combat the last 12 months.
8 weeks target to lose weight and get some shape.
Will be putting the simple equation of 'eat less/exercise' more to the test...

Lewis is now a driver..
Very proud of Lewis today, can’t believe he’s old enough to drive, let alone pass his test first time.
He was obviously nervous beforehand but he’s allowed something like 15 minor faults and he only got 2 which was excellent and even those were very …minor!
He’s now out and about offering lifts to everyone.
It’s the one thing that makes me nervous though I must admit, we stressed to him the importance of driving carefully and not ever messing about. That’s all you can do isn’t it?
Well done him. Very proud of him indeed!

A weekend of computers..
The home pc has finally given up the ghost and no longer works. Luckily I had some software installed that enables me to dial into it externally and I spent the whole of Saturday downloading all the photos and files from him onto an external hard drive before we send it to the bin!
Bought a new pc on Thursday from HP this time, not a Dell for once so hopefully it’s okay. Should be arriving tomorrow which means my life will be lost for ages now as I get this up to speed with everything to make it run as I want and install all the new apps. Bit worried as it’s got Windows 8 on it and I’ve not read any articles yet that have something positive to say about this Operating System. I tried it in PC World and it seems okay, just something new that people don’t like I hope!!
What else over the weekend? Jack played Greater Leys this morning and same as we did a few weeks ago we completely bullied them off the park! Surprised me that my lads could be so dominant, prompting me to add this as a Facebook status update:
Jack was prepared for this match and had initially felt-tipped a 6 pack on his stomach but changed it to “Why Always Me?” on it instead. He scored a decent free-kick so had the opportunity to show off his masterpiece!
Jack played okay, but it was nice because Cian and Wynn both scored really good goals, they have both worked really hard and it was pleasing for me to see them score well deserved (and well taken) goals.
We have Oxford Irish in the Quarter Finals now, they’ll be far too strong for us but we’ll try and keep the score down…it will be that hard!
Anyway, early start tomorrow so best get some sleep.

Skiing in Sainte-Foy…no broken bones
Over the half-term break last week we went to Sainte-Foy skiing and took Wayne, Kerry and the girls with us. What a fantastic week it turned out to be.
Travelled down on the Saturday getting up at 4.00am to get to the airport in time and then picked up cars from Grenoble before driving for a couple of hours. Made it to Maurice St Borg which is where the supermarket was and stocked up for the week before driving up the winding roads to the resort.
We had apartments within a complex this time and it was right on the nursery slope which made life so much easier throughout the week. We well remembered the long walk to the apartment last time we were there, this was total bliss! Picked up our skis and re-acquainted ourselves with the resort and then went swimming and used the facilities and then cooked dinner and had one or two beers before bed!
Next day we were good to go but it took an age to get the ski passes, hour and a half in the and then we were off. Spent an hour with Wayne & Kerry to help them get to grips with some of the basics and then had a go ourselves. Didn’t take long to get back into the groove and were soon zooming around.
I won’t bore you with details but thankfully the week turned into such a success. We’d spend the morning with Wayne, Kerry and the girls and we’d coach them whilst taking them to harder and harder slopes which they were able to cope with, and then go back to the apartment after 2 hours to get some rest and something to eat and then in the afternoon we’d be out by 2.00pm where we’d go off and they would have their lessons. We’d all get back when the slopes closed at 5.00pm, go swimming, have a sauna and then have something to eat with beers, suited us right down to the ground!
Went out one evening to the local bar and also went sledging and on the last night we treated ourselves to a lovely meal, that was a laugh when I asked the bill and she brought us cream instead! It’s been amusing Charlotte and her friends she tells ever since!!
In terms of the skiing all the kids have come on leaps and bounds, they were brilliant, me less so! I couldn’t keep up with them and was often in so much pain from being so tired and aching, I am not fit at present…shame! We would go off-piste as much as possible and that was such a buzz, I really enjoyed that. We didn’t make a black run but that’s for the next time I reckon… Loads of crashes and lots of cups of coffee and hot chocolate at intervals on the slopes, god knows how much we spent on those hot chocolates, well actually I do know and it was over £100.00. Ah well!
During the week I did some work and get up to date with things, I obviously needed to because of being self-employed and I think that paid off because I think I got a couple of jobs as a result of doing so, that will pay for the hot chocolates..
We didn’t want the week to end, I’d happily have stayed there longer, 10 days would have been great, perhaps 14 would be too long.
Anyway, it was another early start to come home so we were up at 4.00am and drove back to Grenoble without incident, although it was surprising to see how busy the roads were. Back to Gatwick and home all too soon.
Another wonderful holiday though with fantastic memories and will start saving again to try and go again within the next two years instead of three. I think Wayne and that would be keen to go again asap and we’d be more than happy to go again with them, it worked out really well and we’re well suited to go together as we all get on really well and seem to have the same ideas/principles which is obviously important.
Some photos below…
